This past weekend I made some artwork to go on our mantel and it was so easy to make! The left panel is my star sign’s constellation (Taurus) and the right panel is my husband’s (Aquarius). The middle panel is part of a poem by e.e. cummings that I love.
- Michael’s Black Canvas
- Small pointy paint brush and thin, flat paintbrush from Michaels
- White acrylic paint from Michaels
At first I thought it would be easier to paint all the stars and then put the constellation in the middle, but that did not turn out to be the case. You will want to make larger dots for the points on your constellation first. Second, draw the lines between the large constellation dots, and then fill in the rest of the canvas with sporadic white dots.
For the center canvas with the quote, I used a ruler to make sure I wrote straight, and wrote it out in pencil. I drew the letters big so they would look good with the thicker paint brush and then went over it with the white paint. After painting in the quote, I filled in the rest of the canvas with sporadic white dots for stars.
This was a fun, easy project that is extra meaningful because of the personalization. I think it would be cute for a child’s room, for any space themed room, or above your bed.
